What's Sea Cadets Like?

We meet one weekend each month for a "drill."  It lasts all day Saturday and all day Sunday. 

  • Each day we do PT (Physical Training) with stuff like stretching, running, sit-ups, push-ups and other toning exercises.
  • Usually we do Martial Arts training. One of our cadets is a black-belt.
  • We'll do Military Drill, learning how to march and follow military commands.
  • The rest of the time we are doing classroom or hands-on training, often with the Coast Guard.
  • Each drill weekend helps you get ready in one way or another for Advanced Trainings, which are the best part of Sea Cadets.
  • We eat lunch on the Coast Guard Station mess deck.
  • Cadets and adults are authorized to wear official Navy uniforms, properly modified to show you are in Sea Cadets.

  • Visiting the American Victory Ship in Tampa
  • Do rifle, pistol, and shotgun marksmanship training.
  • Do swim qualifications and learn how to use clothing for flotation.
  • Go on Field Exercises camping out, learning how to patrol.
  • Do small boat operations
The best part of Sea Cadets is the Advanced Training opportunities.
  • Go to a Navy Style boot camp for  2 weeks.
  • See if you are tough enough to be a SEAL.
  • Work on Aircraft
  • Prove you have what it takes to be a leader as a Staff Cadet at Recruit Training.
  • Stay, live, and work on a Coast Guard Station for a week.
